Israel: The Journey Begins!

Tomorrow, after months of anticipation and preparation, 15 of us excited travelers board the plane for Israel. Friends who wished they could be with us have asked for the itinerary so they could follow us day by day and to pray for us. Others said, “Post lots of photos on Facebook!”

Even before I retired in April 2012, I had been mulling over whether to do a blog; primarily one more of memoirs of travels than daily happenings. So I took the leap a faith and created a blog (not without much angst and frustration learning how!) to let our friends and family follow us as we visit that extremely significant country. This blog is a “trial” run. Please be patient as I’m not sure I have all the kinks worked out. And I’m not sure I’ll be able to post something every day, but I’m going to try.

Israel is such a special place—for three major religions. I learned so much last time.

Beginning with Caesarea, the Roman capital of Judea during Christ’s time where an extremely important archaeological discovery had been made—an inscription dating to the right time frame with Pontius Pilate’s name on it.

To the impromptu practice of a visiting choir from a college in California on the steps of the Pool of Siloam....

To archaeological sites like Beit Shean (my photo in the header is from there), and Masada and Qumran, and to Jerusalem itself with so many places to visit.

Flowers in the Garden Tomb. Loved the flowers in Israel!

We had such a marvelous time that I am very ready to return.

I must go and pack my suitcases.
